A digital art museum in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District has become a favored setting for marriage proposals, according to its manager. teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi proposal
Mark Cooper, General Manager of Miral Experiences, the entity operating several of Abu Dhabi’s premium attractions, said teamLab Phenomena frequently sees proposals within its interactive shows, with some couples even arranging for wedding photoshoots to take place there.
The immersive museum, which was opened in April 2025, upends the traditional model of a gallery show by inviting the visitors there to touch, move through and physically interact with its artworks, rather than just watch them.
The venue is part of an emerging cultural district on Saadiyat Island that also boasts Louvre Abu Dhabi – which has attracted millions of visitors since 2017 – as well as the Zayed National Museum and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.
The latest addition to the district, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi by Frank Gehry, is set to open in December after two decades in development.
Among teamLab Phenomena’s standout installations are Fluttering Butterflies, a multi-sensory space combining sound, scent and shifting digital imagery, and Levitation Void, a darkened room featuring a floating disc that appears to track visitors’ movements.
A nearby chamber, Massless Suns and Dark Suns, filled with glowing spheres of light, has reportedly become an unofficial proposal spot for couples.
Cooper said the museum’s team relies on continuous guest feedback to refine the experience, describing its operation as an ongoing process rather than a finished product. He declined to confirm reports of celebrity visitors, including speculation involving Hollywood and Bollywood figures.
The museum is open daily from 10am to 10pm, with a recommended visit time of two to three hours. Tickets cost Dh135 for adults. Visitors are also directed to Anko, a Japanese patisserie at the exit, known locally for its cheesecake.
With Guggenheim Abu Dhabi’s December opening expected to draw further global attention to Saadiyat, teamLab Phenomena has positioned itself as one of the district’s most talked-about experiences. Alawasat News
